Album Info:Central of Georgia C class 2-8-0 #223 seen in Columbus, GA in July 1981 after cosmetic make over by the Southern Railroad. Eventually #223 would be placed on public display behind the Columbus Iron Works convention center and forgotten about until it was saved and moved to Savanna where it was again restored. The city leaders of Columbus were more concerned about naming another landmark after Dr. King than pony up a trifle appropriation to purchase some paint and ask for volunteers to do some generic preservation work. Ultimately the locomotive fell into disastrous disrepair, paint faded, corrosion and scars from numerous vandals.
